HEREFORD Pegasus Ladies came out on the wrong side of an eight-goal thriller in the West Midlands Women's Regional League First Division (South) when they were beaten 5-3 by Redditch United at a wet and windy KGD Stadium on Sunday.

The Worcestershire visitors made the perfect start as they scored twice within the opening fire minutes.

The opener arrived when a second minute corner was turned home from close-range as the league leaders were in a buoyant mood.

Redditch doubled their lead three minutes later when a 20-yard half-volley rattled the Pegasus net.

United looked out of sight when they extended their lead direct from a 15th minute corner before adding a fourth goal just six minutes later, when a low cross from the right was swept home from the edge of the penalty area, to create a commanding lead as they took advantage of the strong wind during the opening states.

Pegasus had a mountain to climb and pulled a goal back when skipper Scarlette Teague converted a 24th minute penalty awarded for handball by referee Mark Ammonds.

Just four minutes later Harriet Adams drove towards the Redditch United penalty area and found the back of the net with a crisp low finish.

Adams netted her second goal of the afternoon when she burst into the opposition penalty area three minutes before the break and beating the visiting custodian at her near post from a tight angle.

It seemed that Pegasus had found a way back into the proceedings in readiness for the second half.

However, it was Redditch United who scored what turned out to be the only goal after the break in the 64th minute to regain their two-goal buffer and ultimately seal the points.

Pegasus will look to bounce back on Sunday when they travel to Ross Juniors Ladies in their attempt to reach the HFA Women's County Cup final.

Hereford FC Women are also marching on in the HFA Women's County Cup after they put 11 goals past Belmont Wanderers Ladies last weekend.

Robyn Mear celebrated scoring four goals in the rout, while Sheree Smith scored a hat-trick and Amelia Griffiths a brace.

There were further goals for Emily Ewing, Ysabel Pearson and Millie Taylor.

Hereford FC Women were held to a 2-2 draw against Herefordshire rivals Ross Juniors Women last weekend.

The Bulls women were 2-0 ahead at the break thanks to Robyn Mear and Ysabel Pearson goals.

However, Ross came battling back to earn a point through Millie Malsom and substitute Beatrise Zuka.
